- Each child that
succumb to the lure of the streets costs
society anywhere from $1.4 million to
$1.7 million during the course of his/her
lifetime.

in safe, productive and supportive environments
both during and after school.
- Incidents of
vandalism, theft, violent acts and arrests
are 50% lower among students from high-risk
neighborhoods who participate in after
school programs.

participate in extracurricular activities
have better grades and lower truancy rates,
and reach higher levels of achievement
in college as documented by a 17-year
study that followed 1,800 6th graders
in Michigan.

times more likely to use drugs, drink
alcohol, smoke cigarettes and engage in
sexual activity if they are left unsupervised
during the after-school hours.

attend after-school programs improve their
test scores in reading and math beyond
the statewide averages.
